During the Buddha’s time, there was a woman
who was in extreme misery after the death of her only child. When she asked the
Buddha to revive her son, he said, “Go and find a household which have never
known death and ask for some kusha grass for your son, and he will be
revived.”With hope in her heart, she set off in search of the grass, going from
door to door, but was unsuccessful. For which family has never lost someone?
Finally, she understood that with birth, there must be death. Death does not
only occur to one person or in one family, it is a common phenomenon. With
this, she came out of her futile mourning.
