佛陀住世的時候，有一個婦人怛羅那死了獨生子，她傷心欲絕，請求佛陀救治她的兒子。佛陀說：「你去找一戶人家要一棵吉祥草，給你的兒子吃了，就會讓他活過來，但是這種草只有沒有死過人的人家才有。」婦人抱著一絲希望，挨家挨戶四處求討，全無下落，哪一家沒有死過人？最後，她終於知道有生必有死，死不是一家一人的，是普遍的，因而走出悲傷的心情。

During the Buddha's time, there was a woman who was in extreme misery after the death of her only child. When she asked the Buddha to revive her son, he said, "Go and find a household which has never known death and ask for some kusha grass for your son, and he will be revived." With hope in her heart, she set off in search of the grass, going from door to door, but was unsuccessful. For which family has never lost someone? Finally, she understood that with birth, there must be death. Death does not only occur to one person or in one family; it is a common phenomenon. With this, she came out of her futile mourning.
