兜率從悅禪師參訪密行的清素禪師，十分禮敬。有一次因食荔枝，經過清素禪師窗口，很恭敬地說道：「長老！這是家鄉江西來的水果，請您吃幾個！」清素歡喜接過荔枝，感慨說道：「自從先師圓寂後，不得此食已久了。」
從悅問道：「長老先師是何大德？」清素答道：「慈明禪師，我在他座下忝為職事十三年。」
從悅禪師非常驚訝讚歎道：「十三年堪忍職事之役，非得其道而何？」說後，便將手上的荔枝全部供養給清素長老。清素感激說道：「我因福薄，先師授記，不許傳人，今看你如此虔誠，為此荔枝之緣，竟違先師之記，且將你的心得告訴我！」從悅禪師具道所見，清素為其印可後，教誡道：「我今為你點破，讓你得大自在，但切不可說是承嗣我的！真淨克文才是你的老師。」
古人一飯之思，終生不忘，如清素禪師，一荔之賜，竟肯道破心眼，此乃感恩有緣也。

Chan Master Congyue went to practice with the diligent and selfeffacing Chan Master Qingsu. One day, he came to Master Qingsu’s window with a handful of lychees, saying reverently, “Elder, this fruit is from my home province. Please take some.” Qingsu accepted with a sigh. “Since my teacher passed away, I haven’t had the chance to eat any of these.”
Congyue asked, “Elder, which great master was your late teacher?” Qingsu replied, “Chan Master Ciming. I served under him for thirteen years.” “You must have attained his Way!” said Congyue with admiration, and offered him the rest of his lychees. Qingsu replied, “Because my merit was lacking, my late teacher did not permit me to transmit the teachings. But because you are so devout and gave me these wonderful lychees, I will disregard his directions. Tell me what you have learned from your practice.”
Afterward, Qingsu cautioned Congyue not to mention this to anyone, saying, “Though I have shown you how to attain great liberation, you must not attribute your success to me! Say Zhenjing Kewen is your teacher.”
The ancient sages were always ready to reward any kindness. Being obliged to Master Congyue for his gift of lychees, Master Qingsu in turn showed him the mind’s eye.
