學士周豫嘗烹鱔，見有彎 向上者，剖之，腹中皆有 子。乃知曲身避湯者護子 故也。自後遂不復食鱔。

Scholar Zhou Yu tried to cook eels. He saw some eels rearing their heads and curling upwards. He cut them and saw many spawns in the belly. Hence he knew that those eels which curled their bodies to avoid the hot soup were trying to protect their offspring. Thereafter, he would not eat eels again.
