獵人入山，以槍擊母熊，中要害，端坐不倒。
近視之，熊死，足抱巨石，石下溪中有小熊三，戲於水。
所以死而不倒者， 正恐石落傷其子也。獵人感動，遂終身不復獵。

The hunter went to the mountain and hit the mother bear with a rifle. It was critically injured but it sat tight without falling down. On close examination, the bear was dead but its feet embraced a giant boulder. Underneath the boulder there was a creek with three young bears playing in the water. The reason why the bear was dead but did not collapse was because it feared that the boulder could hurt its young. The hunter was deeply moved and would not go hunting again for the rest of his life.
