The Life Protection Murals at the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum are conceptualized by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan. The Murals are a pioneering work of Buddhist art, and propagate the ideas of compassion, life protection, and non-violence through field trips and educational outreach programs. The content is selected from the book Protection for Living Beings, in which the poems were composed by Master Hongyi, and the artworks were painted by Feng Zikai. Using the art as a skillful means to spread the core value of humanitarianism, these artworks, sculpted by Ye Xianming and painted by Chan Mingqi, were transformed from images to bas-reliefs. Located on the outer walls of the covered walkways connecting the Eight Pagodas, these seventy pieces of Life Protection Murals, intermixed with Fo Guang Cai Gen Tan (Roots of Wisdom), aim to encourage the practice of compassion.
