與佛陀同日出生。出家後度眾不倦，越是偏遠難以教化的地方，越發熱心前往。西部輸盧那人性格凶悍粗暴，但尊者不畏魔難，請求佛陀允許讓他前去，後來當地許多人都歸信佛法。他為佛法能弘揚，不懼障礙、不惜犧牲生命的精神，是一位真正的勇者。由於他的善巧說法，被譽為說法第一。

Purna was born on the same day as the Buddha, in whom he later took refuge. After he became a monk, he was tireless in teaching others – the more remote the place was, the more enthusiastic he was in going. He asked for the Buddha’s permission to travel to Sronaparanta in the western region, where people were known for being barbaric and violent. As a result, many local people in Sronaparanta became Buddhists. Purna’s fearlessness and self-sacrificing attitude in propagating the Dharma demonstrated that he was a truly courageous practitioner. Because of his brilliant eloquence, he was considered to be foremost in explaining the Dharma.
